Rockmart has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Model Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though North Murray scored an imposing 75 points on Friday, Rockmart still came out on top. Rockmart secured a 79-75 W over the Mountaineers.
Rockmart's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Samuel Johnson, who scored 20 points along with four steals, and Treylin Davis, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 13 rebounds. Davis is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 11 games he's played. Hunter Atkins was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Model came tearing into Friday's contest with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Gordon Central as Model made off with a 80-56 win. Given Model's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Warriors are ranked 377th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rockmart has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which somehow isn't as good as their 19-5 record this season. As for Model, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-7.
Rockmart ended up a good deal behind the Blue Devils in their previous matchup back in January, losing 86-69. Can Rockmart avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
