After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Somerset Academy - Canyons, the Pine Crest Panthers were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They slipped by Calvary Christian Academy 44-43. Given Pine Crest's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 194th, while Calvary Christian Academy is ranked 396th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pine Crest was led to victory by Franky Garfi and Isabella M sangha. Garfi scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks, while M sangha dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Garfi hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games.
Calvary Christian Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Camryn Kanell, who scored seven points along with six rebounds. Teagan Wakefield was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Pine Crest's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pine Crest won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Oxbridge Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they will play host again and welcome Saint Andrew's, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Saint Andrew's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
