After a string of five wins, the Beacon Bulldogs's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell to Wallkill 54-48. While losing is never fun, Beacon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Wallkill is ranked 38th).
Wallkill was led to victory by Alex Dembinsky and Zoe Mesuch. Dembinsky almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine assists, while Mesuch scored 22 points along with three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Mesuch has scored at least a third of Wallkill's points. Another player making a difference was Amy Crowley, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds.
Beacon's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-5. As for Wallkill, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.
Beacon will play host again and welcome Liberty, where tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Beacon's defense has only allowed 29.1 points per game this season, so Liberty's offense will have their work cut out for them. Wallkill's road trip will continue as they head out to face Saugerties at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Saugerties focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
