The Widefield Gladiators's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 43-34 to Sand Creek. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Widefield of the 49-39 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Widefield still got an impressive performance from Jayden Andrews, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Andrews continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Trevin Stemler, who scored nine points.
Sand Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Elijah Brotherns, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Troy Hill, who scored no points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Widefield dropped their record down to 2-14 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Sand Creek, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-9.
Widefield will head out on the road to face off against Canon City at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Canon City is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. As for Sand Creek, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Elizabeth at 7:00 p.m.
