3A PacWest recap October 1, 2013
Harrisburg extended the longest winning streak in 3A PacWest this week by beating Scio, 15-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Jefferson lost to Creswell 47-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cory Strait in the defeat.
The Loggers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Logan Gray contributed 90 yards.
Gray provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Scio lost to Harrisburg.
Tyler Hull was a key player and the best on defense this week as James Mask's team fell to Scott Phelps' team. The 5-foot-9 senior.
Gray was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 90 yards on 25 carries as the Loggers lost to the Eagles. Teammate Hull added to the ground attack by rushing for 69 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Salem Academy's Carlin Ables and Nathan Schmidt have proven to be a lethal combination. Ables has thrown for 474 yards this season, while Schmidt, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 6 catches for 223 yards. Anthony Johnson from Scio leads the league in rushing with 378 yards.
The top two teams in 3A PacWest will face off this week when first place Harrisburg takes on second place Santiam Christian.
The league will see a high scoring game when Jefferson and the Crusaders face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Brian Martin's team comes in having scored 48 this season, while Salem Academy has scored 97. The Lions scored 0 points last week as they lost to the Bulldogs.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Harrisburg takes on Santiam Christian. The Eagles have allowed 8 points this season, while the Eagles have given up 38.
Harrisburg made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,420 from 7,791. The advance stemmed from a 15-0 victory over the Loggers last week.
