Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 16 to 8 on the offensive boards, a fact the Chapin Huskies proved on Tuesday. They managed a 47-42 victory over El Paso. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Chapin also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Chapin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Samantha Wise led the charge by scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Wise is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Autumn Blackwell was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
El Paso's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amaris Ambriz, who scored 15 points along with six steals and five assists. Ambriz has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Thomas, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and seven blocks.
Chapin's victory bumped their record up to 9-16. As for El Paso, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-7.
Chapin will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Andress at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Andress is ranked 800th, while Chapin is ranked 810th). As for El Paso, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Canutillo at 6:00 p.m. Canutillo is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
