The Mt. Zion Braves will be playing in front of their home fans against the Effingham Flaming Hearts at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Mt. Zion was fully in charge, breezing past Mater Dei 41-6 at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-0.
Makobi Adams was his usual excellent self, throwing for 302 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Brayden Trimble, who picked up 117 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, even though Centralia scored an imposing 34 points on Friday, Effingham still came out on top. Effingham took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 61-34 victory over Centralia. Effingham pushed the score to 48-20 by the end of the third, a deficit Centralia cut but never quite recovered from.
It was another big night for Weldon Dunston, who rushed for 300 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Gaige Gillum was another key contributor, throwing for 216 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Their wins bumped Mt. Zion to 7-2 and Effingham to 5-4.
Mt. Zion came up short against Effingham in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 21-14. Will Mt. Zion have more luck at home instead of on the road?
