Mexia hasn't had much luck against Groesbeck recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Mexia Black Cats will face off against the Groesbeck Goats at 6:00 p.m.
On Friday, Mexia came up short against Elkhart and fell 8-3.
Austin Williford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on five hits.
At the plate, Braden Wilson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Another player making a difference was Adriano Mendoza, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Groesbeck got the win against Westwood on Friday by a conclusive 17-3. The result was nothing new for the Goats, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Braydan Urban was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs but no hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Nick Sanchez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Stevens, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Groesbeck always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Groesbeck's record now sits at 8-2-1. As for Mexia, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Mexia couldn't quite finish off Groesbeck in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can Mexia avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
