The Mineral County Serpents will head out on the road to take on the Coleville Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mineral County is no doubt hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Mineral County ended up a good deal behind the Muckers and lost 46-28.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jayona Kimmins, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmin Serrato, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Coleville entered their tilt with the Rams with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Coleville put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 58-33 win on Thursday. Coleville has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 21 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Kaelyn Lange, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Coleville's points. Another player making a difference was Stephanie Gutierrez-Rodriguez, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Mineral County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for Coleville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Mineral County haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 3.6 turnovers per game. It's a different story for Coleville, though, as they've been averaging 24.4 turnovers per game. Given Mineral County's sizable advantage in that area, the Wolves will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mineral County took a serious blow against the Wolves in their previous matchup last Friday, falling 67-23. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Lange, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 11 steals. Now that Mineral County knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
