For West Wendover's part, Aidien Rodriguez was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Rodriguez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Tavian Gonzalez was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Perez, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
West Wendover hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oasis Academy struck out eight times.
The win was the sixth in a row for West Wendover, bringing their record up to 16-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Oasis Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Oasis Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like West Wendover struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
