Baseball Recap: Lowry Has No Trouble Against Spring Creek

Lowry hadn't done well against Spring Creek recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Buckaroos blew past the Spartans 15-2. The Buckaroos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by eight runs or more this season.

Matthew Casalez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Lowry is undefeated when Casalez allows one or fewer earned runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Casalez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lowry got a massive performance out of Jakob Bauman, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Bauman a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Bryce Niblack, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Lowry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Lowry is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Creek, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Spartans beat Lowry by a score of 14-1 on Saturday.
