Softball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Smithfield's Winning Streak

Smithfield dropped their record down to 9-6 on Friday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They lost 10-0 to the New Kent Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in April.

As for New Kent, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 14-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by eight runs or more this season.

For New Kent's part, Hannah Tober and Mariah Leonard did most of the damage at the plate: Tober went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Leonard went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most doubles Tober has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Wiles, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coincidentally, Smithfield and New Kent will both be playing Jamestown the next time they take the field. The Trojans will host the Eagles at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Packers will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
