3A Region III District 18 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Madisonville moved up to 379 from 463 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region III District 18. The Mustangs were able to make move up by defeating Caldwell 40-7.
Navasota extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Rockdale, 43-0. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Navasota's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Kadarius Baker threw for 242 and one touchdown and Solomon McGinty had 117 yards receiving. On the ground Xavier Creeks chipped in 195 yards. Austin Collins helped Navasota's passing attack out by catching six balls for 71 yards.
Navasota's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rattlers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Baker has thrown for 2474 yards and 28 touchdowns this season, while McGinty has 48 catches for 1030 yards. Creeks leads the league in rushing with 417 yards.
Lee Fedora's team's Collins is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 16 receiving yards against the Hornets to hit that benchmark. So far this year, he has garnered 48 catches for 984 yards.
A big matchup in 3A Region III District 18 this week will be when Taylor takes on Madisonville. The Ducks are currently in fourth, while Greg Morgan's team is in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Caldwell and the Rattlers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Kenneth Gilchrist's team comes in having scored 157 this season, while Navasota has scored 351. The Hornets scored 7 points last week as they fell to the Mustangs.
The Rattlers led the league in scoring this week after putting up 43 points on the Tigers. Creeks caught two passes for 39 yards in the win.
