Basketball Recap: Northwood Academy Skates Past Stratford with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northwood Academy). They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat the Stratford Knights 70-42. The Chargers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 28 points or more this season.

Northwood Academy was led to victory by Maliyah Birch and Rylan Dundon. Birch dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 assists, while Dundon dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. Birch has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Mathews, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 14 points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Northwood Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Stratford lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ciara Mustapher, who posted 19 points. That was a full 45.2% of Stratford's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Harleigh Mosley, who put up nine points and eight rebounds.

The win (which was Northwood Academy's third in a row) raised their record to 4-3. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.3 points per game. As for Stratford, they dropped their record down to 3-2 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Northwood Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-36 victory against Ben Lippen on the 9th. As for Stratford, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 48-39 win against Timberland on the 10th.
