The losing side was boosted by MIKE JOHNSON, who rushed for 42 yards and two TDs, and also threw for 139 yards on 12 of 17 attempts. Douglas County also got help from Aaron Gregory, who showed off his sure hands for 92 receiving yards.
Even if they lost, Douglas County's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jordan Carter, ADRYAN COLE, and Steven (Zee) Mcclendon, who each picked up one sack apiece. Carter was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making nine total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Lambert took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 45-7 win over South Forsyth. The victory continues a trend for the Longhorns in their matchups with the War Eagles: they've now won four in a row.
Douglas County better keep an eye on Ethan Daughtery. He was instrumental in Lambert's win, throwing for 300 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 38 yards. Those 38 rushing yards gave Daughtery a new career-high.
Lambert's run defense was locked in: South Forsyth could only muster 3.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Christopher Oladeji for the heroic effort on defense: he. They're 1-2 when they shut down the run game so well.
Lambert didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Hudson Lee and Sunny Pachika. Lee is becoming a predictor of Lambert's success: when he posts at least one interception the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't).
Lambert's record now sits at 6-4. As for Douglas County, they moved to 7-3 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Douglas County has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 147.8 rushing yards per game.
