The Westmont Sentinels are taking a road trip to square off against the Marian Central Catholic Hurricanes at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Westmont is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Westmont will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Cristo Rey Jesuit on Wednesday. The Sentinels' pitchers stepped up to hand the Cristeros a 25-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Sentinels, who have now won 18 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Briggs Templeton and Nathaniel Ollier made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Templeton tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ollier pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Templeton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Templeton got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs and four RBI, while Ollier earned two runs and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Templeton has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Rocco Damato was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ricky Yenkin, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Westmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in nine consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Marian Central Catholic came up short against Jacobs on Thursday and fell 7-4.
Marian Central Catholic saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaxson Christensen, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Westmont has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 22-9-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Marian Central Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-21 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Westmont has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Marian Central Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
