The Bellaire Big Reds's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their ninth straight defeat. They fell just short of Shadyside by a score of 75-73. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (56), Bellaire still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Bellaire lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mac Pettigrew. Despite the final result, he scored 49 points along with six steals and five rebounds. That was a full 67.1% of Bellaire's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Maurice Webb was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds and seven assists.
Bellaire has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 12 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Shadyside, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bellaire will square off against the Zeps at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Ohio (Shenandoah is ranked 619th, while the Big Reds are ranked 620th). As for Shadyside, they will head out on the road to take on the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
