The Lakeside Eagles will face off against the Riverside Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Friday, Lakeside was able to grind out a solid win over Colville, taking the game 15-12. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Aleya Sturm and Lily Taylor were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Sturm tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Taylor tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off six hits. Sturm has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Sturm went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Taylor went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave Taylor a new career-high.
In other batting news, Avery Austin was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Gerrer, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Riverside posted their closest victory since April 30, 2025 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Medical Lake, sneaking past 11-9.
Like Lakeside, Riverside also got a great game from a two-way player: Lindsey Hudson-Wayne. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. Hudson-Wayne was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzy Cotner, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Chloe Nelson, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Riverside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.2.
Lakeside's win bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Riverside, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7-1.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lakeside hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Riverside struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lakeside got the 'W' in their previous matchup last Friday against Riverside by a conclusive 13-3 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
