Southeastern hasn't had much luck against Portsmouth West recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Senators at 5:00 p.m. Southeastern is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Southeastern can't be too worried about heading out to take on Portsmouth West: they just beat Wellston at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Golden Rockets on Thursday. Considering the Panthers have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kylie Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jade Turner, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Williams, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Southeastern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 12 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Portsmouth West was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They came up short against Valley, falling 13-2. The Senators have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Portsmouth West saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kylee McCleese, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Portsmouth West's loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Southeastern, their record is now 17-7.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Southeastern hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .393. However, it's not like Portsmouth West struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Southeastern might still be hurting after the 15-7 defeat they got from Portsmouth West when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
