The Creighton Prep Junior Jays had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They walked away with a 64-52 victory over Gretna. That's another feather in the cap for Creighton Prep, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Creighton Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dillon Claussen, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and five blocks. Claussen is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Caleb Djoussa was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
When it comes to explaining why Gretna lost, one person who can't be blamed is Landon Pokorski. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Pokorski continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Alex Wilcoxson, who scored 14 points.
Creighton Prep is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. As for Gretna, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Creighton Prep will face off against Buena Vista at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The timing isn't great for Buena Vista: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Creighton Prep has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road. As for Gretna, they will challenge Westview at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Westview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Thursday.
