Softball Recap: Monroe Extends Winning Streak to Six

Monroe came tearing into Saturday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Tomahawk Hatchets with a sharp 9-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Cheesemakers, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Kaegann Paulson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Maddi Rueggsegger was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayde Hawkinson, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Monroe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.

Monroe's record is now 12-2. As for Tomahawk, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Monroe wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-3 defeat against Brodhead on the 28th. As for Tomahawk, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-13 loss against Orangeville on the 25th.
