Mason Holowell and Merrick Bowles made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Holowell tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Bowles tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Combs is 2-0-1 when Holowell allows one or fewer hits, but 1-11-1 otherwise. At the plate, Holowell got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Bowles went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Bowles has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Angus Brumbaugh was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in February. Coleman Biasi was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Combs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, ALA - Queen Creek gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Combs 19-9. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
ALA - Queen Creek got a massive performance out of Adam Solak, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Nash Fryer, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Combs' win bumped their record up to 3-11-2. As for ALA - Queen Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Combs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. However, it's not like ALA - Queen Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
