The Northeast Vikings entered their tilt with the Paul Robeson Huskies with 12 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 13. Northeast took down Paul Robeson 69-55 on Thursday. Given Northeast's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Paul Robeson is ranked 494th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Darrius Gaeta, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. Michael Freeman was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists.
Paul Robeson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. The team also got some help courtesy of Fred Jones, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Northeast pushed their record up to 14-1 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.4 points per game. As for Paul Robeson, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
Northeast will head out on the road to challenge Frankford at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Frankford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday. As for Paul Robeson, they will be playing at home against Simon Gratz at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Simon Gratz knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Paul Robeson likes a good challenge.
