Lucas Parkhurst made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-5. He has become a key player for Booker T. Washington: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-15 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on JJ Startzel, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Booker T. Washington is undefeated when Startzel posts two or more runs, but 0-15 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Brown, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Booker T. Washington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, L.E.A.D. Academy started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Pine Forest. They came up short against the Eagles on Thursday, falling 17-7. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
L.E.A.D. Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Badejo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Hunter Chance also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Booker T. Washington's win bumped their record up to 7-15. As for L.E.A.D. Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Booker T. Washington has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like L.E.A.D. Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Booker T. Washington's way against L.E.A.D. Academy in their previous meeting last Thursday, as Booker T. Washington made off with a 19-1 victory. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
