After a string of three wins, the Kettle Run Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were dealt a 46-13 loss at the hands of Handley. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Kettle Run has scored all season.
Kettle Run's loss came despite strong showings from Ava Prysock and Mary Bernard. Prysock scored six points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Bernard scored two points. Prysock scored a full 46.2% of Kettle Run's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Kettle Run struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Kettle Run's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Handley, their win ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-0.
Kettle Run will face off against James Wood at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully James Wood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday. As for Handley, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Sherando at 6:00 p.m. Sherando will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Handley is ranked 18th).
