After flying high against the Mohave Thunderbirds last Wednesday, the Mingus Marauders came back down to earth. Mingus fell just short of Prescott by a score of 54-51. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Mingus has suffered yet this season.
Despite the defeat, Mingus saw an underclassman step up: Savannah Tobias dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Tobias is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alice Kinsey, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Prescott was led to victory by Bella Abt and Addie Prisciandaro. Abt dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds, while Prisciandaro scored 27 points along with five assists. Abt has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Ruby Jensen was another key contributor, scoring two points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Mingus' defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-3. As for Prescott, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-7.
Mingus won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Coconino at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully Coconino focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday. As for Prescott, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Mohave at 5:30 p.m. Mohave has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
