Softball Recap: Union Grove Sets Scoring Season-High Against Beloit Memorial

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Union Grove). They put the hurt on the Beloit Memorial Purple Knights with a sharp 16-3 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Emma Santarelli and Linzy Madrigal did most of the damage at the plate: Santarelli went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Madrigal got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Santarelli a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Karlie Peterson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Union Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beloit Memorial only posted a batting average of .095.

The victory (which was Union Grove's fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Beloit Memorial, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Beloit Memorial will square off against Janesville Parker at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Union Grove will be paying especially close attention to the Purple Knights' contest: after the Purple Knights face off against the Vikings, they'll take on Union Grove again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
