The Burgettstown Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Fort Cherry Rangers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Burgettstown comes in on three and Fort Cherry on nine.
Burgettstown can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 28-6 margin over Avella. That's two games straight that Burgettstown has won by exactly 22 points.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Fort Cherry on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Carlynton out of the water with a 42-0 final score. Given Fort Cherry's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Carlynton is ranked 493rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fort Cherry's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ethan Faletto, who rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and Matt Sieg, who rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries. Shane Cornali also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Carlynton to a paltry 208 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Fort Cherry's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out nine times before it was all said and done. Carlynton's QB won't forget Louis Ryan anytime soon given Ryan sacked him nine times.
Burgettstown is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Fort Cherry, their victory was their ninth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-0.
Burgettstown ended up a good deal behind Fort Cherry when the teams last played back in October of 2022, losing 48-34. Can Burgettstown avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
