The Gainesville Cardinals came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Unity Reed 75-47 on the road. Given Gainesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Unity Reed is ranked 372nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Lions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Evan Buvka, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Buvka scored 15 or more points. Russell Robinson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three steals.
Gainesville has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Unity Reed, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.
Gainesville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Unity Reed will be playing in front of their home fans against Freedom at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
