Basketball Recap: Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill Comes Up Short

Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were dealt a 74-37 loss at the hands of the Asheville School (Independent) Blues. While losing is never fun, the Lion can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Blues are ranked 41st).

When it comes to explaining why Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill lost, don't look at Noah Kim. Despite the final result, he posted 16 points. That's the most points Kim has posted since back in January. Solano Barbeito was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

Asheville School (Independent) was led to victory by Miki Gacic and Heimir Helgason. Gacic almost dropped a triple-double on 13 points, nine boards, and nine assists, while Helgason had 15 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Gacic is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Mattia Ghezzi was another key player, posting eight points and five rebounds.

Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Asheville School (Independent), they pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill will face off against North Raleigh Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Asheville School (Independent), they will challenge Asheville Christian Academy at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Asheville School (Independent) has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 217 points over their last three games.
