The Whiting Oilers lost against the Marquette Catholic Blazers back in January of 2017, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Whiting had to suffer through a rough 68-32 loss at the hands of Marquette Catholic. While losing is never fun, Whiting can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 324th, while Marquette Catholic is ranked 85th).
Alyssa Quinones was Whiting's leading scorer, having posted 12 points.
Aaliah Blanco held things down on the boards with 13 rebounds.
Marquette Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Laniah Davis, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and five steals. The match was Davis' 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marissa Pleasant, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Whiting and nudges their season record down to 5-8-1. As for Marquette Catholic, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-2.
Whiting will head out on the road to face off against Illiana Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Illiana Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 last Monday. Marquette Catholic will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against New Haven at 7:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023.
