Softball Recap: Wake Forest Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

Wake Forest won against Heritage last Tuesday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Wake Forest was the clear victor by an 8-1 margin over the Rolesville Rams. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Jil Livengood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Mia Spahlinger and Teagan Campbell did most of the damage at the plate: Spahlinger scored a run while going 1-for-2, while Campbell scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. What's more, Spahlinger posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Abbey Lauer was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Wake Forest's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Rolesville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

After both having extra time off, Wake Forest and Millbrook will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 6:00 p.m. on April 8. As for Rolesville, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Heritage at 5:00 p.m. on April 8. Heritage has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.83 runs per game on average), something Rolesville will no doubt try to take advantage of.
