The Mount Miguel Matadors will head out on the road to challenge the Oceanside Pirates at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 947 yards in their previous games.
Mount Miguel took a 24-point loss the last time they faced off against Poway, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Matadors narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Titans 35-32. Winning may never get old, but the Matadors sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Jeremiah Loper produced another solid performance throwing for 333 yards and five TDs while picking up 14.5 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 44 yards. Those five passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. 83 of Loper's passing yards were hauled in by Brandon Arrington, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 15 points in total. All came from Clint Ettleman: he went 5-for-5 kicking field goals for 15 points.
Meanwhile, after only six points in their last matchup, Oceanside made sure to put some points up on the board against Helix two weeks ago. The Pirates simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Highlanders 41-14. The Pirates' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Oceanside found their leader in sophomore Anthony Barquinero, who threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. Neke Letuli helped Barquinero out on the ground, rushing for 106 yards and one TD.
Oceanside didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Helix to a completion percentage of just 50%. The team can thank Mykah Faletoi for the heroic effort on defense: he. Given Barquinero's standout performance, it's clear Helix's secondary just wasn't on the same level.
Oceanside's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Adrian Luna was especially locked on to Helix's QB and sacked him twice.
Oceanside's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Mount Miguel, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Mount Miguel has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 368.8 total yards per game. It's a different story for Oceanside, though, as they've been averaging only 241.8 total yards.
