It was a good run, but the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 56-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Valor Christian. Mountain Vista was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Valor Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.
Despite the loss, Mountain Vista still got an impressive performance from Jacob Hoefs, who scored 17 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hoefs posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Cal Baskind, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Mountain Vista struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Valor Christian pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Valor Christian was led to victory by Cole Scherer and Brady Wynja. Scherer scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Wynja dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Scherer has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Ryan Dixon was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Mountain Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Valor Christian, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with that victory, which was their tenth straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mountain Vista will face off against Arapahoe at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Arapahoe will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Mountain Vista is ranked seventh). As for Valor Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Smoky Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Smoky Hill knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 matchups -- so hopefully Valor Christian likes a good challenge.
