The Floyd Central Highlanders will face off against the Oldham County Colonels at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Floyd Central comes in on eight and Oldham County on three.
If Floyd Central beats Oldham County with four runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Highlanders had just enough and edged out Meade County 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Highlanders have posted since April 1st.
Adeline Shultz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Shultz wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nora Koehler, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Addy Ware, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Oldham County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Nelson County, sneaking past 4-3.
Kennedy Dennison tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Jozie Lashley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
Floyd Central's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Oldham County, their win bumped their record up to 21-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Floyd Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Oldham County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Floyd Central couldn't quite finish off Oldham County when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Will the Highlanders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
