Softball Recap: Ponderosa Extends Winning Streak to Three

Ponderosa had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Rio Americano Raiders a 17-0 shutout. Considering the Bruins have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Molly McFarland was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bailey Borges, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Ponderosa hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive games.

Ponderosa pushed their record up to 8-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Rio Americano, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.

Ponderosa will square off against Christian Brothers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bruins are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Rio Americano, they will take on Woodcreek at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Timberwolves' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
