The Twin Springs Titans are taking a road trip to face off against the Lee Generals at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Twin Springs' pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Lee's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Twin Springs easily dispatched Honaker last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Titans fell just short of Holston by a score of 2-0 on Thursday. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Titans were not able to get on the board.
Makenzie Gillenwater spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Twin Springs saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Ross, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
While Lee didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-8), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They skirted past Gate City 7-5. The Generals haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Avery Weston was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Weston was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Galloway, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Chloe Bledoe, who scored a run while going 4-for-5.
Lee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
With the defeat, Twin Springs broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-2. As for Lee, their record is now 6-3.
Twin Springs skirted past Lee 5-3 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
