Softball Recap: King Kekaulike Wins Going Away Against Lahainaluna

King Kekaulike had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Lahainaluna on Saturday. King Kekaulike's pitchers stepped up to hand Lahainaluna a 14-0 shutout. That looming 14-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Na Ali'i yet this season.

Hulali Williams was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Chiyo Salas and Hilina'I Kuala'Au-Abbey did most of the damage at the plate: Salas scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Kuala'Au-Abbey went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Ho?owehe Kawa?akoa was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

King Kekaulike hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.

King Kekaulike pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Lahainaluna, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
