The John Marshall Monarchs will venture away from home to square off against the Morgantown Mohigans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with John Marshall sitting on four straight victories and Morgantown on seven.
John Marshall is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Steubenville, who was ranked 24th in their home state at the time (John Marshall was ranked second). The Monarchs blew past the Big Red 13-5 on Tuesday. The Monarchs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Lily Dijkstra spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaylee White, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 12 contests. Paislee Babiczuk also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: John Marshall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Morgantown hadn't done well against University recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Mohigans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Hawks.
Morgantown also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: MADISON WISMAN gave up a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. WISMAN has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Morgantown saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was KAYLEIGH WHITE, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
John Marshall's record is now 16-3. As for Morgantown, their record now sits at 15-4.
Morgantown's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: John Marshall has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. It's a different story for Morgantown, though, as they've only averaged .359. Will they be able to contain John Marshall's hitters?
John Marshall suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Morgantown when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Monarchs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
