Hemingford and Perkins County are an even 4-4 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Bobcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Plainsmen at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hemingford's defense has only allowed eight points per game this season, so Perkins County's offense will have their work cut out for them.
On Friday, Hemingford came up short against Bridgeport and fell 30-20. The Bobcats were up 20-6 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Even if they lost, Hemingford's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jacob Bryner, Tayten Haas, and Owen Plog, who each picked up one sack apiece. Hemingford received some extra help from Zaine Feist, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Perkins County). They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 66-0 win over Morrill. Winning may never get old, but the Plainsmen sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Perkins County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jared Mireles and Domanic Williams. Another thorn in Morrill's side was Alec Reese, who picked up two sacks and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Perkins County, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Luke Minster, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Having lost for the first time this season, Hemingford fell to 6-1. As for Perkins County, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Hemingford has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 260.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Perkins County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 199.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Hemingford was taken down by Perkins County 68-20 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Bobcats were down 54-20.
