Center Hill is 0-5 against Saltillo since April of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will host the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. Center Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Center Hill will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Senatobia on Monday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 16-10 win. While the Mustangs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Mara Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and five unearned) runs on 11 hits.
At the plate, Juliet Davis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Reagan Ryan, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Center Hill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Saltillo scored the most runs they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pine Grove.
Lynley McCarley made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Avery Holly was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Center Hill has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Saltillo, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.
Saltillo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Center Hill has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Saltillo, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Center Hill's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Center Hill couldn't quite finish off Saltillo in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 and fell 10-8. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
