Volleyball Recap: Madeira Starts Season with Victory Against Northwest

Madeira gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over the Northwest Knights. The win continues a trend for the MUSTANGS/AMAZONS in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.

The 2-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Madeira was: they took both sets by at least 11 points. The final score came out to 25-9, 25-14.

Sophia Wirsing paced Madeira's offense, picking up eight kills. Wirsing got some help from Dee Dee O'Malley and her 16 assists. Evie Schiller controlled things from the service line, finishing with nine aces.

Madeira has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against Hamilton on the 16th. As for Northwest, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against St. Bernard-Elmwood Place on the 16th.
