The Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Ellenville 65-48. Given Monroe-Woodbury's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Ellenville is ranked 178th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Monroe-Woodbury to victory were Jankarlos Mendoza and Christopher Pearson. Mendoza scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and six assists, while Pearson scored 20 points along with nine rebounds. Mendoza set a new season high mark in steals with six. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Desir, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Monroe-Woodbury pushed their record up to 8-0 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Ellenville, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monroe-Woodbury will square off against Pine Bush at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ellenville, they will head out on the road to face off against Onteora at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
