The Paxton Bobcats put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 56-45 victory over Geneva County. Given Paxton's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 44th in Florida, while Geneva County is ranked 222nd in Alabama), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Hydie Varnum, who scored 14 points along with 6 rebounds. The game was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Emily Ward, who scored 12 points.
Paxton's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Geneva County, they have fallen quite a ways from their 25-7 record last season and are now at 1-3.
Paxton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Red Level at 5:30 p.m. on December 1st. Hopefully Red Level focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Friday. Geneva County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Slocomb at 5:30 p.m. on December 1st. Slocomb is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
