There's no place like home for the Morningside Academy Eagles, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against Atlantic Christian by a score of 59-52 on Monday. The win was all the more spectacular given Morningside Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 325th, while Atlantic Christian is ranked 136th).
Morningside Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Elijah Clifford out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Clifford scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Bell, who scored 12 points.
Morningside Academy pushed their record up to 9-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Atlantic Christian, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morningside Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Synergy Magnet K12 at 5:30 p.m. on December 19th. Atlantic Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Berean Christian at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th. Berean Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Atlantic Christian likes a good challenge.
