Seymour and Bedford North Lawrence are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Owls will challenge the Stars at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Seymour 3.3, Bedford North Lawrence 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Seymour is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Shelbyville just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Golden Bears by a score of 6-5.
Braylon Busby made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bedford North Lawrence had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lions a 5-0 shutout.
Not much got past Maddox Garrison, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Loogootee off the board.
On the hitting side, Cal Gates was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Grayson Gillespie, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Bedford North Lawrence's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Seymour, their loss dropped their record down to 17-7.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Seymour hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Bedford North Lawrence struggles in that department as they've averaged .334. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Seymour was able to grind out a solid win over Bedford North Lawrence in their previous matchup two weeks ago, winning 5-2. Will the Owls repeat their success, or do the Stars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
