5A Region 7 recap October 1, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 5A Region 7 this week, Southside beat Springville 30-24. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Panthers.
Columbia was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Eagles defeated Butler 35-0.
Columbia's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Clarence Leavings threw for 207 and 3 touchdowns and Darrion Leslie had 135 yards receiving. On the ground Terence Humphrey contributed 111 yards. Humphrey helped Columbia's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 23 yards.
Leavings put up the best numbers in passing as Michael Pryor's team bested the Rebels. Leavings' favorite target this week was Leslie, who caught 6 passes for 135 yards.
Columbia's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Leavings has thrown for 568 yards and 6 touchdowns this season, while Leslie has 18 catches for 347 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Scottsboro takes on Etowah. At the moment, the Wildcats are in third, while the Blue Devils are in second.
Brewer scaled the state rankings by moving to 247 from 283 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region 7. The Patriots climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Vinemont 61-6.
