The Greenbrier West Cavaliers will venture away from home to face off against the Webster County Highlanders at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Greenbrier West is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
On Thursday, Greenbrier West didn't have quite enough to beat Trinity Christian and fell 7-6.
Landen Doss made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Bradley Hodge also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Webster County made easy work of Paden City on Friday and carried off a 16-5 victory. Considering the Highlanders have won three matches by more than ten runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Maddox Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Webster County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-6 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Greyden Channel was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Joston Lewis was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Webster County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Webster County's record now sits at 3-6. As for Greenbrier West, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Greenbrier West has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Webster County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Greenbrier West took their win against Webster County when the teams last played back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 23-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavaliers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
