The Irmo Yellowjackets will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Myrtle Beach Seahawks at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Irmo walked away with it. They breezed by Colleton County at home to the tune of 85-0. The win was just business as usual for Irmo, who after 11 games remain undefeated this season.
Jaden Allen-hendrix and Aaron (AJ) Brand Jr. were among the main playmakers for Irmo as the former gained 185 total yards and four touchdowns and the latter threw for 277 yards and six touchdowns while completing 84.2% of his passes. Allen-hendrix was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Another player making a difference was Donovan Murph, who picked up 102 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Myrtle Beach waltzed into Friday's matchup with two straight wins but they left with three. Everything went their way against May River as Myrtle Beach made off with a 40-14 win. Given Myrtle Beach's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 29th, while May River is ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Irmo pushed their record up to 11-0 with that win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-9 Colleton County and 2-9 Lancaster (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.1% over those games). As for Myrtle Beach, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
