Softball Recap: Maplewood Drops Highest Score of Season Against Aquinas

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maplewood). They blew past the Aquinas Knights 19-2 on Wednesday. The Rockets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Emily Perline and Addison Marker made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Perline struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Marker tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Perline went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Marker went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most runs Perline has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Maplewood got a massive performance out of Lauran Krieg, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. That's the most runs Krieg has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Claire Urchek, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Maplewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aquinas only posted an OBP of .250.

Maplewood is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. As for Aquinas, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maplewood will host Columbiana at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Aquinas, they will take on Garfield at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
